Mossy and the Big Boy Bed

Miami bedroom at bedtime

Warren climbed into his new big boy bed and looked around the room. Everything was familiar, but bedtime still felt a little different when the mattress felt bigger and the room felt quieter. Then the curtains fluttered, and Mossy popped up by the window in tiny pajamas and a nightcap made of leaves.

"New things can feel funny at first," Mossy whispered. "That does not mean they are bad. It just means your brave heart has a new job tonight." Mossy told Warren about the night he moved from his baby nest to his own big monster bed and how even he had needed three deep breaths, one favorite pillow, and a little courage.

So Warren made his own plan. He hugged his blanket, took a slow breath in, then another, then one more. Mossy tapped the bedframe and said, "This bed is not here to make you lonely. It is here to help you grow." Warren smiled. That made sense.

Soon the bed did not feel strange anymore. It felt strong, cozy, and his. Mossy tucked the blanket around Warren and whispered, "Brave hearts sleep best." And this time, Warren believed him.
